Video: Reference Silver Tube Mic Review (via @HigherHZ)

We were recently sent this excellent Reference Silver Tube Mic review by Mark from Higher HZ – check it out! The guitar cabinet comparisons are especially illuminating.

There are just two factual errors that we should note:

  1. The Gold mic came out before the Cardioid mic, although just by a few months in about 1990.

  2. With vacuum tube voltages, we're not talking about phantom power at all. We’re talking about the dedicated voltages that the vacuum tube requires to operate, which would be the high voltages also known as the B+ and the heater voltage, in order to power up the vacuum tube. Phantom power is +48V run along the audio lines, which is not necessary to apply when you are using vacuum tube microphones with their own dedicated power supplies (such as Manley Reference tube mics).

Other than that, Mark did an excellent job explaining everything, and highlighting the distinctive features of the Manley Reference Silver microphone – and for this, we are very appreciative. Great job, Mark!
