There were only a handful of these giant Manley 400/800 Watt Monoblocks ever made, probably only 4 pairs, built in February 1996 and sold to our importers in Russia. These were literally built as a double load of the Manley 400 Watt monoblocks. These amplifiers used a 12AT7 input tube and two 6350 dual-triodes wired in parallel as the phase splitter driver tubes for each bank of 8 output tubes. Thus each amplifier produced nearly 800 Watts from 16 x 6550 tubes. Svetlana 6550B tubes produced in the now-defunct St. Petersburg factory are what we originally deployed in these amplifiers.
To avoid a heavy power drain when the cold amplifier is first switched on, we conceived a "Soft-Start" mode which also functions as an "Ever-Warm" position allowing the amplifiers to be always warmed up for pleasurable listening. A 16-position front panel switch selects between each of the output tubes in order to read the current draw on the front panel meter. Although each output tube has its own bias-adjust trimpot, we carefully fit each amplifier with computer-batched tubes for optimum performance. Mercury Magnetics produced both the power and the output transformers. The output transformer can be re-configured for different optimum loads by resoldering jumpers on the output pins.
